This is Part 2.
Japan has some of the largest urban areas in the world with millions of people packed into many futuristic massive metropolises. These cities are always on the move and stillness is a luxury. Fortunately, photography can capture these personal intimate moments and in doing so, reveal snippets of life at an exact point in time. These instances will most likely never be repeated. With these shots, patience often takes a back seat to acute observation and fast reflexes.
My project, Publicly Private, is an attempt to capture this stillness — a pause in the hectic hustle bustle, a bubble of individual silence in the sea of movement, a pensive errand in cacophony, a moment of thought and solitude amidst the noise. My gaze and in turn, images inevitably intrude on these moments as I seek to document a quiet in the chaos. As I trespass into these worlds, this series of photos are my passport stamps into all these different universes, visible to all yet intimate and private.
There's a Part 3!!
It’s fantastic to see the way seemingly random street photography can capture the essence of a place. Great project idea.
