Yellowstone Family Vacation

in photofeed •  5 years ago

About a month ago I took my family to Yellowstone National Park for a quick weekend getaway. Spring time is the best time to visit the park because the animals are out and pretty active after a long winter.

We got up early (5:30 AM) each day and stayed up late swimming at the pool in the hotel. We saw 21 bears, 4 million bison (give or take a few), lots of elk, a moose, a coyote, some marmots, and a golden eagle. Sadly no wolves on this trip.

Here's a video of each day of our adventure:

Yellowstone - Day 1
Yellowstone - Day 2
Yellowstone - Day 3

Here's a few photos to enjoy as well

I've never been there unfortunately but I knew it's a nice place. Your photos are a confirmation, not that it's needed. It's nice to see animals roaming around freely, especially the bears with the cute cubs. I love the nature photos as well, it would be great to visit one day. I bet you had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing and have a good day.

Amazing views and you captured so many wildlife animals, I'm so jealous(joking), maybe in a few years I will take my family pack for the Yellowstone trip. It's good to know that spring is a perfect moment to discover this beautiful and wild place.

Thank you for sharing.

5:30 am does seem like cruel and unusual punishment. LOL. You would need a cistern full of coffee for this girl. But it does look like it was worth it.

You got some amazing animal sitings. Living in Canada, I have seen black bears on more than a few occasions. But I have never seen a grizzly, let alone a grizzly cub. I trust you were at a safe distance.

The hotsprings was beautiful, such a lovely color of blue. It is too hot to bathe in, I suppose.

So nice to see a family out and enjoying nature together. You are giving them such amazing experience and memories:):):)

Always worth getting up early, though never easy.
Yes, we were at a safe distance from all the bears. I had a 60-600mm lens so I can get photos of them from really far away.
The hot springs are way too hot to bathe in, you'd melt in seconds. It's also illegal to go off the catwalks because there are a lot of hidden geothermal pockets just below the surface that you could fall into and lose a leg, plus footprints ruin the scenery. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that ignore the rules. We saw several tourists walking on restricted areas and yelling at them didn't do any good.

Some people are rule averse:) The more you correct them. The more they are going to do it.

Yellowstone is one of the most breathtaking places on the planet, you sure did a good job documenting a lot of your journey, my favorite part was for sure baby buffalo and baby bear lol and of course Grumpy Moose! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! I could see a lot of shades of yellows at Yellowstone....lol
Such a loving and awesome park you have in there and a cool family outing it was. I love every scene in there and i am tempted to go back to start from the start of your national park experience.

Every second i spent on your blog was worth the read, Great work and keep the photography spirit up

The wildlife there is amazing! I'm coming from a country where we have too many bears. There are years when it is allowed to shoot them (unfortunately) because there is not much food for them and they move to cities and get their food from the bins.. AND it's strange that I have never seen one in real! And you saw so many in one weekend. Amazing!

Your photos are great! I especially like the fourth one with the little girl looking at water. The focus there is spot on :) I would probably print it out and frame it if I were you :)

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

wow. To start with, I really like your pink hair :) You kids are cute, must be fun and full of love, energy to live with these three. I am not married yet so I am waiting for mine ;p

I like the Yellowstone park, specially those white peaks. Grizzly and her 3 cubs are interesting. My head said brown bear when I saw the picture but then I read it Grizzly and googled what it is. I did not know about it, probably because no Grizzly in India and even I never saw them in my school books.

Thank you for this beautiful share, good meeting you, your family and yes mama Grizzly. :P:):):):) Congrats on your curie :)

Thanks @vibesforlife! Though my wife is the one with pink hair. 😉
Yes, Grizzly bears are native to North America, they're usually larger than black or brown bears and have a more prominent shoulder hump.
My kids are certainly fun and full of energy.

Ooo casey name made me feel casey must be the one with the pink hairs. hehe, kidding. Grizzly bigger than bear, I am imagining how heavy they must be.

One of the gifts of life is family and nature, when they are together is the most peaceful we can appreciate. I loved the photos, they are beautiful and your family is very nice, greetings!

Thanks @iamsaray! I don't know if I'd call my kids "peaceful" even when they're outside in nature :D but they enjoy it and will hopefully remember the experience and lessons they learn.

There is no better way to show kids the world, nature and these other inhabitants in our universe than taking them to such nice places. Just one or two days of visit to such places, they will be able to learn the content of an entire text book'

More there is no better way to rewind the energy from the hard day today life than spending such quality time in such naturally blessed places.

The photos in the thread is excellent to say the least, especially the one with mountain in the back. the colors in it made it more attractive.

The snap I attached is the one I snapped while travelling through such forest area..where I spotted an elephant. A lonely tusker is highly dangerous that we sped away in it..

hi @caseygrimley
I also want a Yellowstone vacation !! :-)) truly a magnificent place and how many animals! the bear with his cubs is fantastic, and I never saw an antelope in my life. perhaps you have woken up your children too early, but I'm sure they appreciate being able to do these fantastic experiences with their parents, they will remember these holidays forever and they begin to love nature and animals, and above all respect for them. if we are lucky your children will save the planet from exploitation !!
congratulations and thanks for sharing with us

We've been lucky to have good experiences seeing wildlife when we get up early so they are willing to get up early. The first time we went to Yellowstone a few years back we saw some elk butting heads and a wolf right on the side of the road!

beautiful experiences! but do you live nearby?

Fairly close, it's about a 5 hour drive

Beautiful pictures, lovely family.
I'm curious, why do they call one of the pools "black pool", it loks pretty blue :)
What was the temperature that day. Some of you look pretty relaxed in t-shirts and all but we see those white mountains in the background and it looks cold all of a sudden.
A real blessing to be able to witness such marvelous beauty.

My kids asked the same question about Black Pool. My answer was "because in the deep end it goes black." You don't see the deep end in this photo, but yes it's very, very blue.
It was in the mid 60's most of the trip so a t shirt was comfortable unless there was a breeze

Hahaha. Clever response.
Thanks for the feedback

What beautiful photos and what an amazing vacation! Thanks for inspiring me to go visit with my kiddos :) I found your post thanks to @curie <3

That's "Grumpy Moosen" ... plural casey!!
