Iglesia de San Francisco

Dark clouds gather over the roof top of the Iglesia de San Francisco (or San Francisco Church) in La Paz, Bolivia. La Paz is such an amazing city that you could spend months exploring if only there was not so much to do in the Bolivian countryside! The church was built in the Andean Baroque style between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The style is also known as Baroque Mestizo in English or Barroco Andino or Arquitectura Mestiza in Spanish.

Barroco andino was was an artistic movement that flourished between 1680 and 1780 in the then Viceroyalty of Peru and stems from the Portuguese word barrueco, which can translate as few different ways as impure, mottled, flamboyant or daring. The Spanish Empire and the Viceroyalty of Peru collapsed at the beginning of the 19th century with the independence movements for the modern countries of Peru, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Guyana and Venezuela.

I love the perspective you get when on a rooftop looking over a city. What is your favorite rooftop view point? I would have three favorites: The Vatican in Rome, The Tokyo Sky-tree, and the Empire State building in NYC.

Beautiful. I love the ominous clouds and the architecture!

Cheers mate.

Any city rooftop view point of any city! French and Italian rooftops for the older feel, New York for those water towers! It's my dream to have a city apartment (spacious and most likely worth millions) that has a big view over the streets and buildings.

Sorry I've been slack with commenting lately!

Thanks ! Sounds like a nice dream. I am not sure running workshops is slack !

You can appreciate an excellent view.

Thanks

Love this!

Thanks

WOW so genius picture!
Love the abstraction in the bricks!

Thanks.

Awesome view with dark clouds over the roof top @intrepidphotos. Thanks for all the information about the city La Paz and about artistic movement Barroco Andino.

Thank you !

That's different view on San Francisco ;-) thanks for information, steem on!

Thanks.

I was just looking at this photo and thinking "wait, I know this view!". La Paz indeed is amazing!

It is such an epic city !

Nice shot. Any clue what the little temple-like roof toppers are for, other than just to look pretty? Dark clouds over "The Peace" sounds foreboding...

I think they are just there to look nice.

I love the leading lines using those decorative chimneys (if that's what they are). Also great use of portrait - I think many of us shy away from portrait for landscapes/cityscapes.

Thanks. I used to shoot predominately landscapes but mobile phone social media (like Instagram) has shifted my view to look for more portrait landscapes.

Love the contrast and tones. Great shot!

Thanks !

Great!

Thanks

I truly need to go here! <3 Gorgeous picture, orange roofs against an almost purple sky, nice color spectacle! :D

Yes you would love it in Bolivia.

South America will have my heart forever <3 such rich culture. Awesome pics :)

Thanks! It's a special place. I would love to go back.
