Tengboche Porter

in photofeed •  6 years ago  (edited)

A female porter carries a heavy load near Tengboche Monastery in the Everest Region of the Nepalese Himalaya. Often trekking in husband and wife teams, they carry up to 93 percent and 66 percent of their body weights respectively, for weeks at a time over steep inclines at high altitude. Studies have shown them to be the most efficient in the world consuming less energy per kilogram than a standard backpacker would need to shoulder about half the same weight. They carry their load in a Doko, which is an oversized basket that rests against the back. Most of the weight is taken on the crown of the head via a strap that runs from the head underneath the Doko. Shot on Fuji Velvia slide film.

Human photography is as interesting, and sometimes even more so, than nature photography.

It is indeed.

Ah! The Everest. A dream that I now feel might not actually happen. Enticing nevertheless :)

very good photography, transmits the culture and the essence of the moment

thanks

yes very nice

nice click

What do you mean click?

That's some pretty impressive load carrying :O Do the studies also show the effect of carrying loads like that on the body or just that it's efficient? :D

It cant be good over the long term. Its just much more efficient to carry directly on the spine, it is similar in Africa where they balance things on their head. It seems 80kg on your head is about 40kg on your shoulders; neither would be very pleasant.

Wow, la fotografia se ve increible, es increible la mirada que deja la señora, me inquieta lo fabuloso que puede llegar el "hombre " con determinación.

Same

Thanks

Love the authenticity. I wonder how much weight she carries on her back. By the way dude. What camera you are using? I wonder how can I buy an inexpensive good quality camera

Thanks. I use Canon cameras. This is an old shot and was shot on a simple EOS 300 film Camera with Slide Film. Over my time as a photographer in Digital I have used Canon's as well (450D, 50D, 6D and now at 6D II )
