Past, Present and Future ~ @photogames Season 2 ~ MakeUp Game

in photogames •  7 years ago

This is the last game for the second season of the #photogames. Every photostar from the past four weeks will have to share a picture related to the Past, one for the Present and some thoughts or ideas for the Future. The full details for this game can be found in the original post.

Considering that this post is related to a photography game I decided to post pictures about the different way we used to play in the past, in the present and what I think it will be the future of this community on Steem.

Past

For the past I selected some pictures (scanned with a phone, don't zoom too much on them please :P) taken lot of years ago with a film camera (Pentax MX with a 50mm 1.7 manual lens).

Present

My entry for the Present theme are some of the most well known toys in the history. I have lot of them at home for my kids, but not so much to recreate what's in these shots taken during an exhibition related to Lego bricks and the Star Wars universe.

Future

I've been playing the #photogames almost from the start. I've joined Steem just some weeks before the game started and in this 3 months they have been a great way to learn new things, work on photography topics I'm not really familiar with and see lot of awesome works from other photographers.

I think that the photography community on Steem will increase in the future, and this platform has the great advantage to easily integrate the social media stuffs related to the games with the ability to distribute prizes with a common currency that is known to all the competitors.

For the future of the games I have the following suggestions:

1. The seasons should be scheduled with some times between them

Playing a whole season is really time consuming, and I think it's way too much work if the season are scheduled without a rest. Also in a season the prize are only for the top competitors, so casual player will not be attracted to the games and some competitors not doing well in the first two weeks can stop playing for the remaining of the season.

2. During the normal games it will be great to add an high prize game

There are lot of contests (lot of them related to photography) here on Steem that have higher prize requiring less effort ( #portraitcontest, #killerpix, #bwphotocontest, ... ). I think that a single game with a higher prize will attract more (new?) players. This game can also not be related to a single week, but can be posted at random on the @photogames account.

3. Don't create different leagues

This last one is not a suggestion to do something new, but instead a suggestion to leave the games as they are. I think that for this community it is great to have all the competitors playing together and I don't think that splitting the players in professional and amateur photographers will be better.
Personally I love the opportunities to have my work related to what some great photographers are able to do on the same theme, or on the same image. I know that I will not be able to win some of the games because there are players with much better image that do this as their work, but I love playing with them nonetheless. Maybe I will not able to win the prize for that game, but playing against them will improve my skill and this is a great prize by itself :)

Awesome loved your thoughts. Interesting to see your opinion bucking the trend to complicate things with multiple divisions of abilities. Noted.
