Playing the games this week while on the road only with a smartphone had been very difficult. This is my last game and the longest one by far, so if I write something weird it’s just my smartphone spell checker (or maybe my bad english 😄).

My story is about a long evening hike with my wife on the island of Stromboli (Italy).
Mt. Stromboli, nicknamed "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean", is one of the three active volcanoes in Italy and is constantly active with minor eruptions that occur at the summit craters at intervals ranging from minutes to hours.

The hike was long, but not very difficult. The strange thing is that my wife was really tired almost from the start, and this is not usual because we are quite used to hike way more difficult than this one.

We are also in a group with 8 other people (Stromboli is an active vulcano and hiking to it’s summit is allowed only with ranger and guided tours) so we were walking at a pace good for everyone.
She decided to continue also if she was not at her top and we were able to reach the summit (where we took the shot in this post, just when the clouds that have been there during the climb opened for the sunset).

After that we starting our way back down with our feet sinking into the sand that covered the mountain. After this adventure she slept for a good part of the next day.

Few days later we discovered that she was waiting for our first child, and we like to think to that hike as the first one made with one more member of the family :)

Aww cool story

Thanks for reading. When we find out we were also a bit worried because we did lot of hiking and activities without knowing about the child... we were worried maybe too much stress, but everything went well :)

What an awesome story!!!!

In search of a dark night sky to attempt milky way photography I let my little brother and his friend to lead me into the hills above Spokane. Found out that hiking in the dark is terrifying. Haha. I was shining my flashlight every which way and stopping at every noise. We finally got to the spot and I looked around for some good frames. There was a giant boulder that looked like a ship that I did some light painting on. If I thought hiking was scary, it's even worse when you have to sit and wait for a 20 second exposure for every photo. I felt like a sitting duck. Haha. This photo here was my last one of the night. Notice how the boy is moving and the lights trail a bit...We heard a mountain lion. My shutter was nearly done, but I grabbed the camera and we high tailed it down the mountain back to the car as quick as we could. Ahaha. Good thing they knew where to go too because I wouldn't have made it back.

For me it would be personal growth... Since I lost my Dad 4 years ago I have been picking up my camera less and less. I always had my little camera with me to get shots of the kids and what ever but I stopped taking my DSLR with me which was very out of character.

The steemit community has brought that fire in the belly back. I feel challenged and excited. I'm always looking with admiration and left thinking 'wow' looking at other people's photos and reading their experiences. There's 3 things that I have challenged myself with recently (and I have a long way to go) but first on the list is photo editing... oh boy... I wish I was good, lol. I am having fun and learning along the way though, I'm keen to get Lightroom to really get my fingers into it more!! Scared... but keen!

Next is using my macro lens more... to be honest I have barely used it until recently when a lady here on steemit wrote of her experience going into the forest with just her macro lens. I was about to go away and thought that would be a great challenge for me, it would force me to use it. Well I loved it... one day turned into 3 days and I got some nice and interesting shots. You really do have to look at the world differently when you've just got a macro lens.

And lastly... would be turning my photos to B&W. Also something I've not done a great deal of. I was always taught in high school there should be a good balance of black, white and grey... and that is ingrained in me. I have to agree wholeheartedly, a B&W image shouldn't be all grey and not every photo is suited for B&W. Editing a photo to be a B&W image is very different to colour... so I'm learning.

So... here's my image in colour and B&W. I took this on Wednesday while my husband and son were helping my Fath-in-law mow his 10 acres. While they did that, I literally laid in the paddocks taking photos with my macro : ) I feel pretty proud of this one as is it a representation of how far I have come in my own personal growth from those who inspire me here on steemit.

I love seeing your pictures and glad you are out taking them again! Steemit and the photo community here has made me want to be more involved with photography too!

Thank you, that's so nice of you to say... Yes it seems to have that effect on us, it's good, I like it. I just wished I got out more. I try to avoid busy places now but some of the photos I see makes me want to get out there more. : )

Beautiful story, and photos. I'm glad you are pushing your limits and learning more each day.

Thank you : )
Self improvement has being something I have been personally trying to focus on for the past 6-7 years in one way or another. It's always easy to slip back into old habits thought. Picking my camera back up wasn't one I was concentrating on though... that one has definitely just fallen into place from being part of the community on here. It's good though... I'm enjoying it, I'm meeting new people like yourself, it makes me happy and I'm learning along the way... what more can one ask for! : )

OK finally got this story done for this picture

It's epic and hopefully convinces you to go on the bolivia trip ;)

i think most of the people don't get what photography is, especially photography of people. This was my only wedding shoot (friends brother was getting married) and i am no videographer but if someone captured this 30 seconds of my wedding and nothing else it would be enough for me.

DSC_2592.jpg

Made this photo back in March of 2017. We got up around 3:30/4:00 AM, and drove up to Tunnel View to catch the sunrise. It was taking its time, so just chilled. Like, 12 degree chill. :)

Short and kind of funny one:
I was out on a shoot with a friend, she was modeling for me. A 2-3-year-old kid(i guess girl) passed by and asked her mom what's happening there pointing towards us. The mom explained briefly and then asked quickly if the kid wanted to be a model when she grows up. Without even thinking the kid yelled NO and started walking again. Both me and my model started to laugh hysterical for the next 5 minutes

so good sun photogames thanks for @derekkind

Derek. Thanks for asking for my favorite photo story. I have been wanting to record this story for many years and you gave me the incentive to do it.

My favorite story is getting lost in the desert for @jarvie to get this picture

Wentworth falls, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia
This photo was taken around Easter 2009 when I went to the Blue Mountains for a 3 day trip with my friends. It was a very memorable trip for many reasons. We got up at 4.30 am to leave Canberra and it was very cold that morning. The backpacker hostel we stayed at was pretty rundown and my friend who booked it kept apologising for how bad it was but I did not mind at all because I was with my close friends. That was enough. One of the things we did was a 4 hour hike. We saw many beautiful waterfalls. I took so many photos with my Canon RebelXT with Canon 17-85 mm f4-5.6 lens that my friends who were not so into photography abandoned me and finished the hike much faster than I did. I didn't know how far ahead they had gone and I was so tired from carrying the camera equipment that I felt I would never make it back! As I was feeling down a woman coming from the other direction told me, "you are almost there!" When I finally made it my friends handed me a cupcake with a smiley face on it and it was the best feeling ever!

I so know that feeling... there is nothing better when you feel like it will never end and then someone lets you know that it's not much further! We always do these hikes in the winter, I'm looking forward to some good walks soon now that it is cooling down! : )

Yes! Cool weather is great for hikes

Driving back from the Lofoten Islands, we had found a nice place for camping on the beach near Nordkil. After setting a tent, I walked around and made some photos. There was nothing special though. During our travels, I still need to work. So while everybody was sleeping in a tent, I have been working in a car, checking and sending the emails, chatting with the clients, etc. I can be very focused on what I do. After the midnight I looked out of the window. What I had seen was so unexpected and beautiful, so I stopped breathing for a moment. The beams of low Arctic sun lightened the beautiful clouds covered the sky, and the high tide made a perfect mirror of the alga field which had been there in the evening.
