That incredible lightning is caused by the friction of all the particulates being ejected by the volcano. Volcanic lightning is amazing to look at and incredibly dense (strikes/time). The phenomenon known as "Dirty Lightning" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_thunderstorm
