Many people are familiar with the phrase 'White cliffs of Dover '. In fact, the Dover cliffs are just one of many on the British Isles. The most impressive display of this subterranean lime chalk is near the coastal town of Eastbourne, East Sussex. There are seven magnificent hill-like formations ending abruptly in cliffs. Whether you're atop the hill, or bellow on the beach, the sights are breathtaking.

Apparently, when the Romans approached the British Isles for the first time from the south, they were confronted with these giant white cliffs. The sheer spectacle left them in awe of the island they then termed 'Albion' [from root Latin word 'Albus', meaning 'White'].

Albion, is the oldest known name of what is now known as Great Britain.
