Flora in Italy - a compilation of flowers that grows in various regions of my country. Snake's head. [ENG/ITA] by adriano. Flora italiana. Fritillaria meleagris.

in photography •  7 years ago

Snake's Head is a perennial plant of 15 to 20 cm tall that grows and multiplies by carnosic bullets formed by each generation. It needs unoccupied places with plenty of water to grow in peace. It is a beautiful and delicate flower with bell shaped petals and long leaves alternately arranged on its fine stem. Snake's Head blooms for a short 7 to 10 days in April-May, but it also depends on the evolution of the weather. On the outside the color is purple with a velvety appearance painted with white spots with pink shades. In some Snake's Head, it is presented as a poisonous plant because the bulbs contain a strong alkaloid.

Wow! That's amazing! How is it possible that a flower can look like snake skin? :D

Nice photos, especially that last one. Nice subject isolation. I've never seen a snakes head before. Those are pretty! The color pattern / texture is very attractive.

The details of the flower are amazing, the petals have a strange grid pattern.

Nice! We have those in The Netherlands as well, but they are very rare here.

I've always thought of fritillaria as being spotted but our top 2 macro shots show the spots as being like little squares. I'll have to look more closely next time I see on live. 😊
