Rio Rita to bloom.
Waiting for Rio Rita to bloom. I havent seen her flowering yet as I was overseas when she last flowered in May this year. The leaves are very large for a Vireya as are the buds. More like a Rhododendron in style. This is also described as very fragrant and bred here in NZ by the late Os Blumhardt.

Rio Rita is now flowering. She has a strong fragrance and an unusual shape, sitting quite flat compared to most vireyas. Her soft pink petals are lovely even though I am not convinced I like her form.
