Today we drove up to the mountains for some relaxation, fresh mountain air, canoeing, and to check out the aspens changing color. It was a much needed trip for everyone. This is my photo journal of our adventure to Dillon Reservoir.
Mountains look amazing when you get this close.
Almost there. Gotta go through Eisenhower Tunnel.
Made it to the lake. Here's our first view of some fall aspen color.
I forgot to grab pictures of the town, but we drove around, had lunch, and then went to get our canoe. The water level was pretty low this time of year, so our walk to the canoes was pretty long.
We got our canoe and shoved off! Here's a little sail boat on its own adventure.
At a leisurely pace we rowed to a patch of small islands. "Islands" rather because the water was so low that most connected together. We parked on one and got out to walk around.
While we were taking pictures, Aedan was tossing rocks into the water and having a good time. I snagged a pic. Might make a good desktop wallpaper.
Our dynamic duo! Mom and boy on the rocks.
I got Zara to sit for a picture. I think it turned out pretty nice.
Oh wait, that's a dormant volcano in the background you say? Awesome!
After that we got back in the canoe and paddled back. On the way we passed by some shocked boats.
Then we turned in the canoe, went back into town, and closed our adventure with some locally made icecream and some live music. After that it was my turn to drive, so there are no more pictures. We drove around the lake, made a couple lovely (but sometimes scary) wrong turns, and headed back down the mountain. Thankfully there was no fear of my brakes cooking because the traffic kept us at around 30 a good half of the way back.
It's sad to have to leave, but we're talking about going back in the spring after the thaw fills the lake. I want to stand in the same spot on the long walk photo and take another one to compare.
I hope you enjoyed our little family adventure. I know we certainly did, and we might just add trips to Dillon more frequently.
