We encountered some really crazy looking caterpillars recently when we were out for a walk! They all had a red head like a tomato and a green body with prickly looking spines all over them. Here in Panama, I have heard that some caterpillars can really hurt you if you touch them, so we just looked at these guys.
I wonder what the little creatures will turn into. It actually reminds me of a story my daughter and I read this week from Parables from Nature called "A Lesson of Faith" about a caterpillar who is left to take care of some butterfly eggs when the butterfly dies. The caterpillar is told to feed the butterflies dew and nectar when they hatch and asks a lark to help since all the caterpillar eats is cabbage leaves.
The lark tells the caterpillar that the eggs will hatch caterpillars and not butterflies and he doesn't believe the lark. Suddenly small caterpillars are crawling around him and he realized they hatched from the eggs that the butterfly laid! He then learns that caterpillars turn into butterflies and is happy coming to the end of his caterpillar life having faith that he will soon turn into a butterfly.
Maybe they will turn into a big moth or a beautiful butterfly - I'm not sure! It is so amazing when we can draw real life applications to what we are reading in school. It happened a few times this week actually!
They were even making a caterpillar train! It was fun to watch them for a few minutes and know that this was just part of God's amazing creations here in Panama. It seems like we find some new creature to admire every day - as long as they are not harmful to us!
Fun Friday will be brought to you here every Friday by A Panama Mama.

They look huge! We have similar looking ones here, but they are much smaller, and are a pain because they form tents in trees and eat everything.

Yikes! That sounds kind of crazy! These guys were pretty large. We just spotted them while walking by!

I can see how the caterpillar can be a good parable. We raised some caterpillars here that became moths. They were not very pretty moths. But it was fun seeing the chrysalis. Thanks for sharing the photos, I like the tomato red head! @ironshield

I'd love to see if @mountainwashere could tell us what this is and what kind of moth it might become. He has this "nature submission" project on his blog (although he's been gone for a while and not much has happened there) that looks for things like this. But I don't see a way to submit it to him (unless I try it in Discord) -- or maybe he uses one of the apps that shows him mentions on Steemit -- so that's what I'm doing in this comment.
@mountainwashere ---> can you tell us anything about this caterpillar? @apanamamama lives in Eternal Spring, Panama ... since you've said it helps to know the location of the sighting.

Nice! Thanks for thinking of that. I remember seeing his posts before but didn't think of submitting something. We have a lot of creatures around here that I wonder what they are. I should do a post. ;)
