We found a Laetiporus sulphureus, aka Chicken of the woods at the base of an oak stump on the homestead. This is an excellent edible wild mushroom that has the texture and taste of chicken! when pulled apart, its flesh looks like cooked chicken as well. I didn't find any morels this year, but this find is a major score! ill be leaving it for another day or two to grow before harvesting. Then I think Ill be making some tacos!!

Beautiful example! I've never had it. We found a few morels in the yard but I wasn't brave enough to cook and eat them.

I can understand not wanting to take the chance lol! I only know a few species that I would be comfortable eating myself.

I’ve never found or tasted this mushroom but it looks amazing My family has always hunted mushrooms but I wonder if this grows in Norway at all Enjoy the harvest though Mushrooms are so precious!

I have never seen them growing in the wild before I moved to this area last year. I am new to hunting mushrooms and want to learn more because I agree with you, they are very precious!

Yes, magical stuff the mushrooms. I had to look it up and we do have Chicken of the wood in Norway as well, but along the coast. I have never seen them either but several people I follow in north America talk about it and I would love to taste. let me know how you prepared them!

They taste great! I hope you can find them one day, i really like them. I plan to harvest this one in 2 or 3 days. We also have wild garlic, perhaps sautee the mushrooms and garlic with butter?

Yes, that sounds like a very good plan! In general I like to do just that with mushrooms, keep it simple, but love a little garlic added. Sounds perfect :-)
