Shot of the Day - Experimenting with "Filters"

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

I know this shot isn't crisp or properly focused but I think it's neat! I took it many years ago, sitting on the pier fishing. I miss fresh perch!! YUM!!

Anyway, this was taken before I purchased filters..... I shot it through my sunglasses. LOL!!

After that I purchased a nice brown filter and a red one. To be honest I like the brown one but the red one is weird! What filters do you like to use? And if you've used a red one with success do you have any tips? It just sits in it's case waiting for me to use it.

Until next time friends...

Quite unique ! Thank you for sharing @artemisnorth

I think it’s pretty cool
Apart from UV to protect the lens I seldom use filters

That worked really well - and through your sunglasses! I imagine a red filter would be shocking, but a brown one if similar to the sunglasses should would be quite pleasing.

I don't, or never have had a fancy camera. I am sort of old school and simple. The fanciest camera I have had was a Polaroid Instamatic when I was a teenager. It was cool. Did not have to take the film to have it developed!

I did take a semester of Photography in High School, so I am familiar with methods of taking pictures and how to develop film in a dark room. Red light is okay if I was doing black and white, but with color; the room had to be completely dark.

I just apply filters to photos in my free GIMP Software. I am too tight to buy any fancy equipment.

Have a good night. Thanks for the pic!

Smart ass! I had an old Polaroid too. It was a birthday gift....long ago...I loved it. I love your suggestion with the black and white...... I don't think I tried that or darkening the room and using my tripod. Sounds like a couple of fun experiments. It's been sitting for so long. I found an old back up of photos and saw this picture. It made me giggle. Thanks Sarge! ..... What the heck don't you know about? GRIN

Wow @artemisnorth equally as good as a filter, it gives the picture a sepia feel at first I thought it was quite an old photo.
