My first light-painting session with my new Olympus E3

in photography •  5 years ago

My goodness! I knew that choosing to light-paint using my SLR film camera was doing it the long way around, but if I'd have realised exactly how much longer I'd have bought this bad-boy months ago!

I'll never get rid of my film cameras, that's for sure, but as I'm slowly getting familiar with all the features on my new digital friend it's ignited my passion for photography all over again. I feel like an absolute noob again and to be honest I did feel a little overwhelmed when I first began reading the manual. There are so many tricks to learn with this camera, but starting out using SLR film cameras has given me a great foundation to work from. I have the basic skills down and now it's time to progress and allow technology to help enhance my hobby.

So after finding out how to manipulate the shutter speed I decided it was time to get painting. All I had to do was wait until it got dark enough and then set up in the back garden. It was great knowing I didn't have to wait until I'd used a whole role of film, get it developed and then see the results. Now it was just a case of click and collect! Instant awesomeness!!

All the photos below were taken in a single exposure and haven't been edited in any way. They aren't nearly as good as some of the light-painters pictures I see on steemit but I'm new to this and going digital gives me a chance to learn much faster. I hope you enjoy what you see and I'd welcome any tips and advice you have to offer.

Absolutely in love with light-painting! And my neighbours think I'm completely bonkers, walking around the garden swinging a light sword around. Meh! Who cares, this is too much fun!

See you all next time
