@kelsnm tirelessly drills holes into the logs of the cherry tree we cut down about three weeks ago. We plan to create a large amount of these mushrooms logs in hopes of having a bountiful harvest come next spring.

Three logs I inoculated back in February are beginning to show signs of mushroom development and I feel I will begin seeing fruit this fall season, without a doubt!

It’s an easy process. 1. Source the correct wood. 2. Drill holes in wood, evenly spaced and thoroughly encompassing entire log. 3. Plug holes with wooden dowels covered in shiitake mycelium spores and what not. 4. Seal the dowels in the hole with melted cheese wax. 5. Set aside in a cool, shaded spot and wait.

You reap only what you sow. Kelsey and I put in the labor to make the logs, and so thus we can enjoy the food down the road. Can’t wait to share the results!
