Shaoguan - Cycling in the countryside / Umgebungsradeln # 13

Quite a while since my last Shaoguan cycling post, but I just don't get anything done at the moment. Contrarily, back then, beginning of May 2007, I was probably a bit too busy to go out cycling. I ventured outside the university once in a while, but not for longer tours.	Das letzte Umgebungsradeln ist schon eine Weile her, aber ich kriege im Augenblick mal wieder wenig auf die Reihe. Anfang Mai 2007 war ich jedoch recht beschäftigt, weswegen ich wohl eher selten mit dem Rad unterwegs war. Radelte zwar manchmal, machte aber keine längeren Touren.

That particular day I was near the Shaoguan golf course again. & I found this strange plant:	An diesem speziellen Tag war ich mal wieder in der Nähe des Golfplatzes. & fand diese seltsame Pflanze:

I'm pretty sure I know this plant, but for the hell of it I can't remember what it is. & a prolongued Google search hasn't delivered any results either. Annoying. The next one was easy, though:	Bin mir ziemlich sicher, daß ich diese Pflanze kenne, aber kann einfach nicht rausfinden, wie sie heißt. Eine längere Google-Suche erbrachte auch nichts. Ärgerlich. Die unten zu sehende war jedoch einfach:

That's clearly a hibiscus, probably Chinese hibiscus, although with all the different varieties, it's hard to tell (for me). This one was obviously growing wild, but whether it's a cultivar or not, I don't know.	Dabei handelt es sich wahrscheinlich um Chinesischen Roseneibisch. Bei den ganzen Varianten, die es gibt, bleibt aber eine gewisse Unsicherheit. Diese Pflanze wuchs wild, heißt aber nicht, daß es kein Kultivar ist.

Then the sun set over some ponds near the golf course. To the right you can see the club house. Quite nice, how the thin clouds lit up. That's when I found the flower from the title pic.	Dann ging die Sonne hinter einigen Fischteichen in der Nähe des Golfplatzes unter. Rechts sieht man das Klubhaus. Interessant beleuchtete Wolken. Das war der Zeitpunkt, zu dem ich die Pflanze vom Titelbild fand.

This one was also easy to find, it's a Vietnamese Gardenia (Gardenia (Kailarsenia) vietnamensis). Nice flower, but strangely the only one on that plant. Most pictures I found looking for the name show several flowers per plant.	Die ließ sich auch recht einfach finden. Es ist eine Vietnamesische Gardenie (Gardenia (Kailarsenia) vietnamensis). Interessante Blüte, aber seltsamerweise nur eine einzige. Die meisten Bilder, die ich fand, als ich nach dem Namen suchte, zeigten Pflanzen mit mehreren Blüten.

Yep, it was a flowery day. That's a Singapore daisy (sphagneticola trilobata), if I'm not mistaken. Seemed pretty interesting to the local ants. I'm not that much into flowers & rather closed in on some noisy water dwellers, which are not necessarily easy to find:	Jau, ein blumiger Tag. Das Bild oben zeigt Sphagneticola trilobata (kein deutscher Name), falls ich richtig liege. Die Ameisen waren sehr interessiert. Ich nicht so sehr. Stattdessen widmete ich mich lieber einigen lärmenden Wasserbewohnern, die sich nicht unbedingt leicht finden ließen:

But a Taipei grass frog (Hylarana taipehensis) was nice enough to climb out of the water so I could take a good photo:	Ein Taipeh-Grasfrosch (Hylarana taipehensis) war aber so nett, aus dem Wasser zu klettern, so daß ich ein gutes Foto machen konnte:

Another Taipei grass frog was also interested in a photo shoot:	Ein anderer Grasfrosch zeigte sich auch fotogen:

After which a green puddle frog (Occidozyga lima) was a bit jealous of all the attention the grass frogs were getting & decided to show off a bit.	Das machte einen Grünen Pfützenfrosch (kein deutscher Name, Occidozyga lima) etwas neidisch & er protzte ein bißchen, um auch etwas Aufmerksamkeit zu bekommen.

Compare the big webbing at the hind feet of the puddle frog with the very small one of the grass frog. Shows, why they got their names.	Interessant, wie groß die Schwimmhäute an den Hinterfüßen des Pfützenfrosches sind, verglichen mit denen des Grasfrosches. Da weiß man, wie sie an ihre Namen kamen.

On my way home I also saw the above Chinese bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis). I think, when I was in Hong Kong, I got some better images of bulbuls, but this one is nice, too. Looks a bit like a painting.	Auf dem Nachhauseweg sah ich den obigen Chinabülbül (Pycnonotus sinensis). Ich glaube, als ich in Hongkong war, konnte ich bessere Aufnahmen machen, aber dieses Bild ist auch nicht schlecht. Erinnert an Malerei.

Waiting at a railway crossing, I noticed this quite normal habit in China: Packing the whole family on a small scooter, without helmets.	An einem Bahnübergang fiel mir dann diese chinatypische Szene auf: Die ganze Familie auf einem Motorroller, ohne Helme.

Back at the university I came across this one-armed freshwater shrimp. The loss of one arm didn't seem to bother it very much. The beetle below couldn't be bothered anymore:	Zurück auf dem Campus sah ich diese einarmige Süßwassergarnele. Der Verlust eines Armes schien sie nicht weiter zu stören. Den Käfer unten konnte eh nichts mehr stören:

Could be some kind of flower chafer which was killed when sitting on the road. Must have been a light hit, but enough to kill it. Then there was this big bugger:	Könnte sich um eine Art Rosenkäfer handeln. Saß auf der Straße & wurde anscheinend leicht angedötscht, aber genug, um ihn zu töten. & dann war da dieses Viech:

I'm pretty sure that's some kind of long-horned grasshopper (Tettigoniidae), but I can't find out which species. When I came home, a special treat was waiting for me:	Bin mir ziemlich sicher, daß es sich um eine Laubheuschrecke handelt, aber die Spezies konnte ich nicht rauskriegen. Als ich nach Hause kam, wartete eine besondere Spezialität auf mich:

That's dog meat. Tasted quite good, but the smell when cooking is not for the faint-hearted. A family I know prepared it for me. They didn't eat it themselves (they had a pet dog which probably would have been rather unhappy), only cooked it for me, because I wanted to try it.	Das ist Hundefleisch. Schmeckte ganz gut, aber der Geruch während des Kochens ist nichts für Zartbesaitete. Eine befreundete Familie hatte das für mich zubereitet. Sie selber aßen es nicht (hatten einen Hund, der wohl etwas eingeschnappt gewesen wäre), sondern hatten es nur auf meinen Wunsch hin gekocht.

That was a visitor I had that evening. A pretty big paper wasp, perhaps of the species polistes metricus. I just opened the bedroom balkony door & it was gone.	Das war eine Besucherin, die ich an dem Abend hatte. Eine recht große Feldwespe, vermutlich der Spezies Polistes metricus. Brauchte nur die Balkontür zu öffnen & weg war sie.

Interessante Fotos. Aber wieso bist du immer noch bei 2007?

Steht doch im Text: Kriege im Augenblick nix gebacken. Außerdem habe ich damals in Shaoguan wirklich viel fotografiert.
