She is the Goddess of fire, volcanoes and violence and she shaped the Hawaiian Islands

In Hawaiian origin mythology Pele is the mother of all; she is the creator and destroyer of land itself. I was raised on a very special chunk of lava rock in the middle of the Pacific ocean known as the Big Island of Hawaii. There I was lucky enough to have met Pele and feel the raw intensity and Im not going to lie intimidation of active flowing lava. These pictures were taken in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is open and available to the public year round. Heres a link to they're home page: http://www.hawaiipacificparks.org/national-park-partners/hawaii-volcanoes?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkMSk_KPU2AIVCcpkCh1xTAQFEAAYASAAEgJ0UPD_BwE

Getting close to this kind of heat is impossible without specialized gear that wont catch fire or start melting; and this was about as close as we could handle without feeling like tender slices of bacon starting to sizzle in the frying pan. Eeek! When the river in front of you is roughly 1200 degrees Celsius or hot enough to melt most natural substances it wouldn't be smart to take a dip. It is truly a humbling experience to be so close to Pele's devastatingly beautiful elemental power.

Dab life! These lovely young ladies accompanied another friend and I on an adventure to witness Pele's magic in full effect. It is a lot of fun as a local born and raised in a world class tourist destination too play tour guide and show people our local favorite spots.

The volcanos of Kīlauea and Mauna Loa home of Madam Pele are creating brand new land Even as you read this article. In fact the Big island is growing by approximately 42 acres every year. For a little perspective, a football field is about 1.3 acres, giving the Big Island of Hawaii 32 brand new football fields every Year! And the crowds going wild Jerry!

Taking this shot was actually a real trip for me even as a local who has seen the lava flows before because I was there in that Exact spot a week earlier but with one major difference, that entire lower field of rock was simply Not there. That entire shelf had been created seemingly out of thin air in so little time I had to be shocked. There was such an incredible contrast between the recently cooled lava and the 15 year old flow it was currently navigating around over and under it made feel like a real photographer rockin a Samsung Galaxy 6.

I hope you've had a wonderful time exploring the volcanoes with me and have splendid rest of your day. Aloha!
