Forgotten Fences in the Woods

in photography •  8 years ago

You never really know what you'll encounter when hiking in the woods, at least here in Central New Jersey.

I've found so many animal bones, old bottles, and the obligatory deflated mylar balloon, that sometimes I think my @steemit handle should have been @bones_bottles_balloons.

This post shares some captures of a very old barbed-wire fence that quietly remains standing, for the most part.

I'm not really sure what it originally fenced in (or out), but it runs for quite a few miles.

This particular area of Allaire State Park is a favorite place for mountain bicyclists, and over the years they've blazed quite an elaborate series of narrow loopback trails that traverse within and outside of the fenced in area.

You can see where the various trails skirt through some of the holes in the fence.

Love hiking love the pics and the post great job! Following

Thanks @modernnomad. Agree that hiking is a very under-rated but fun activity.

You just inspired me to post my hike to stony falls Virginia check it out ! .....im gonna follow an resteem

I love these photos, I believe we have the same aesthetic ;)

nice nice nice! That flaky tree bark shot and the lone path through the trees are my fav ones. Good stuff!

Thankyou @chrissymchavez!

Yeah of course, your work is always on point!

What an amazing series of shots!! Great job! I would assume that a fence like that was installed by the govt. not some farmer to keep his cows in. Interesting research project. up-vote and re-steem for sure!!

Yeah the fencing definitely screams "keep-out", but I didn't see any signs except the one rusted swiss-cheese sign.

Great set of photos. I love hiking in woods near metro areas. You never know what you are going to find!

Agree @mericanhomestead, in many parts on NJ, you find all kinds of ancient junk piles as well.

I love to see how nature is slowly taking down that fence!

With "slowly" being the operative word, I'm sure I'll be long gone before that fence is 😱

I guess nature really is the ultimate re-cycling center!

Lovely photographs, nature against man.

Yup, a battle fought over many decades!

some old bottles would be cool to come across, antique

I find them quite often, usually you'll stumble across a small dumping ground that is loaded with old bottles, pots, cups, you name it. I've posted a number of times with stuff like that and I'll do a few more soon.

Those gnarly trees are amazing. Thanks for another great day out wandering.

Could be a shagbark hickory, but not really sure. Here's a post I did a Steemit eon ago about shagbark hickory, strangely enough entitled Shagbark Hickory.

LOL target practice I have done a lot of that

I tried to make out what that sign said, but it was too far gone, which is understandable for something that got shot that many times 😉

It's hard to beat cool abandoned shit. Nice work!

It is, IMHO!!!
