The basilisk lizard a.k.a. the "Jezus Lizard"

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

One of the wunders of nature is the basilisk lizard, but they are commonly known as the the Jezus Lizard. This lizard is a genus of the corythopanid lizards and can be found in Central America. They cannot limitless walk on water it is only for 4 to 5 meters (12 to 6 feet) before they sink into the water, only ment for running away from a bigger predator.

I saw this one in the small rainforest at Isla Bastimentos in Panama. Wasn't able to catch during its run over the water, as those pictures where all out of focus. With a speed of close to 1,5 meters per second, me and my Canon EOS 1d where too slow :)
