Beautiful Decay : A B&W image series of 35mm film Photography, developed and printed in the darkroom by me

in photography •  8 years ago  (edited)

A 35mm B&W film shoot, based on the contrasting textures and the simple moody beauty of Urban Decay, developed and printed by me in the dark room.

Living in dense urban spaces, I often use my feet to get around. I love the action of moving this way in the city and often take off from the beaten path for variety.

These images are meant to be seen as a chapter or a series. Not bombastic, instead subtle and dynamic in the small details and contrasts.

These are all part of a slightly larger series, I feel that showing 7 images is the right number to share today. I find that these 35mm shots speak with a very different voice than do my digital shots. In fact this project has moved into color and digital for various reasons now, so I am happy to be able to share these 35mm images today. (I will post a selection from my final color series in a few weeks or so)

These are scans of the negatives. In scanning some richness and detail was lost (I have much to learn about scanning) I am still grateful for the scanner and being able to share them this way.

All images shot in Minneapolis, MN. The camera used is an old Canon EOS 35mm with a Sigma zoom. They have been primarily shot on old Czech film I bought from Freestyle Photographic Supply (check them out).

***I included a picture at the bottom, of a 12x18" draft print of one image with today's date taped to it. Just in case...

@darkb4dawn your work takes the simple, bordering on mundane and makes you want to stare at it for unhealthy periods of time. Keep it coming, I've got you on follow.

Thanks so much. That is exactly how I feel about these images myself. I really dig your kind words friend!

UPVOTED!

For ORIGINAL creative, not a "curator".
Kudos. Beautiful, stunning work.

Some really beautiful images showing how something generally classed as ugly can be incredibly interesting and beautiful.

You bring beauty to otherwise neglected and "ugly" cityscapes. That alone requires a great deal of artistic talent. These are beautiful. I especially love the shot of the fence slats - kind of an "as above so below" kind of image. Is that the name of the movie?

Again, meant to post under @fairytalelife, but you got a higher vote this way. :)

Thank you! Just checked out your work. The art and thoughtful philosophy, I totally dig it!

I love these.

I love your use of line, there's just so much to look at with the symmetry and asymmetry caused by how you've framed the lines, and how you balance the lines. That's stuff I try to incorporate into my photos as well but you've done a good job with this... Really great.

I would like to own one of these.

Balance is my thing. Thanks for the kind words!

As I said over here I think we have the next Ansel Adams in our midst.

This is one of few high quality posts I've seen under #photography tag. Good job!

I love #6. Analog photography is extremely cool.
