Here are some freshwater shrimp from my 16 20-gallon aquariums. Enjoy!

The cream of the crop; this black Zebra Pinto on a sponge filter is a perfect example of its breed.

P.S. these shrimp are not for eating. They are for pure enjoyment. They are also very hard to keep; requiring specific pH, TDS, gH, and kH ranges, combined with a good ecosystem of bacteria and enzymes.

How much is it to buy one? How easy is it to breed these critters?

These are, well, the top of the game. Over 2 and a half years I have learned how to breed them. The top ones I'm still breeding to a number, but I have some lower tier shrimp ready for purchase. The ones in the article are our best shrimp, they cost around 60 US for a nice one, but I'm not selling them yet. My Blue Bolts, around 30 US per shrimp, are the bluest in North America. I also have imported Crystal Red shrimp from Germany. Those cost around the same as the Blue Bolts. For the shrimp, a properly set up aquarium is a MUST. Anything that is a slight deviation will kill them. High gH? Dead. Low gH? Dead. High pH? Dead. Super low pH? Also dead. They need a proper setup with no other fish [the fish will eat them] or shrimp, unless you want to crossbreed [which I wouldn't recommend, because my shrimp are purebred]. They also need good plant life, with a pH regulating gravel [I'd recommend Fluval substrate]. If you're a beginner, I'd say start with Cherry Shrimp, they're quite cheap, so you can replenish stocks when they die [every new shrimper has deaths]. If you are interested in buying my products, check my website out: http://www.shrimptopia.ca/

Remember to not make any drastic changes in water, otherwise the shrimp will die. You will also need a plethora of water additives to simulate their natural habitat, all of which we sell. You will also need to cycle the tank, essentially leaving the tank be [while putting in the required water additives], stimulating good bacteria that the shrimp need to survive. the black Zebra Pinto looks great
