These images were taken in the very early morning hours on a Sunday, around six to eight, around Johannesburg.
It's haunting how quiet a big and busy city like Johannesburg can be. Johannesburg have various suburbs but for most of these images in the series I was in and around the main city, the central business district.
Johannesburg is also known as Jozi or Joburg. It's the largest city in South Africa, it's in the province of Gauteng, there are nine provinces in South Africa.
Johannesburg was established in 1886 following the discovery of gold on what had been a farm. Soweto was a separate city from the late 1970s until the 1990s, but is now part of Johannesburg.
The city is often said to be Africa's economic powerhouse, a modern and prosperous African city, but walking around early Sunday morning in Jozi gave me a completely different picture.
