3D Scanning a Joint

So, my super secret camera project continues. Because of my lack of engineering and CAD skills, I’m doing an end run around an actual education and I’m finding the pieces I want, scanning and assembling them in the computer.

I use photogrammetry to scan the object, in this case a joint and compile the mesh model inside of Regard 3D. Once the mesh is rendered, I bring it into MeshLab to clean the model, generate a surface and glue together the other model I recently scanned.

The scan you see here is the model before I began cleaning it up.

Oh... it was hot as HELL in that photo tent!
