Dreemits World: The Invisible House and the Illuminating Magic of the Sun

Next to my parent's home is a patch of woods, and inside the woods is a clearing where a house once stood. It was in fact the first house built on the street (my parent's being the second) in the late 1800's.

When I was a child the clearing was a giant hole where a basement had been, with pieces of crumbling foundation bordering it, that had become the neigborhood junk yard. Everything from old mattresses to old appliances were in that hole, and we kids were constantly being warned to stay away from it lest we step on rusty nails or cut ourselves on glass. Of course we heeded that warning as well as most kids (which is to say not very. In fact the mattresses served as trampolines and a fridge was a favorite hiding place)

The hole has since been filled in, and now you'd never know there had been one.

As I began snapping pictures, the sun filtering through the trees was absolutely enchanting and it brought to mind a vivid memory of "The Invisible House."

Once upon a time I spent most of my days in the world of my imagination.

Err, I might want to start that again

I spend most of my days in the world of my imagination, but once upon a time that world consisted of invisible houses and enchanted forests where fairies and gnomes played hide and seek in the trees.

And the trees were alive in the truest sense of the word, protecting these magical creatures.

And some of the trees were secret portals. If you had eyes to see then the way to open them would be shown to you.

IMG_0185-01.jpeg

Often this 'way' would be illuminated by the sun. If you looked at just the right moment, with your heart before your eyes, the opening would be revealed to you by way of a sign (a pinpoint of light on a tree)

And if you were a really gifted seeker, you would find more than one, and follow these to other worlds filled with adventure.

IMG_0187-01.jpeg

Worlds where magic was possible...anything was possible.

While I stared at the leaves in this picture so many memories came pouring in. Ten year old me would have been convinced I had caught fairies on film. Evidence of that invisible world. (This me is not so sure that ten year old me would be wrong)

IMG_0189-01.jpeg

As we grow older we stop believing that magic and fairies exist, that trees are consciously alive or that there are such things as invisible houses.

IMG_0190-01.jpeg

But every once in awhile we catch something in the corner of our eye. And while we may ultimately dismiss it, for a moment the possibility exists once more.

These stone steps are the only surviving part of that old house. I vividly recall sitting on them with my cousins, pretending that they led to an invisible world, one that only the 'gifted' could see. In our minds the house still stood, and in some ways we were entirely right about that world since I still have an image of what it looked like inside and out.

Excelnte post dear friend @dreemit, very interesting loaded with emotions and beautiful images, I remember of childhood are the most beautiful that a person can treasure, their emotions increase with the passage of time.
Thank you very much dear friend for these beautiful gifts
I wish you a beautiful day

I''m so glad you enjoyed this my friend!!

Amazing to see how buildings stand for hundreds of years but I think that it adds a pretty spooky and mysterious atmosphere.
It may be because I was born in the city and I've never been at one with nature.
Another great photograph, I love shots like these with beautiful lens flares

Ah, a city boy, now the empty bench creeping you out makes sense, haha! Oh man, if you knew what was across the street from that bench-- Insane Asylum Mass Burial Ground with the nearest house a half mile away....
The pictures in the loony bin post were taken with my phone before I got the camera :)

It's a beautiful place. Sounds like a wonderful place to be a kid. The fun thing about growing up is having kids and watching them believe in fairies and elves. I so look forward to when my baby is big enough to have an imagination.

YESSS! I remember when my daughter was born and I couldn't wait for her to get excited about Santa!

That does look absolutely magical. I know I would see exactly the same kind of thing! I love the slanting sun through the trees in the pics.

Oh and look what I did just there!! :0)

Dreemit.jpg

Ohhh, how did you do that? I wanted to do that!! I'm terrible at photoshop!

I did it in an android app! Picsay Pro! Its cool eh!

Everything is possible ☺️ let imagination and creativity go far and wide.. We will be amazed by the outcome.. Nice pics sis 😊

Hiya @dreemit how are you doing? Are you on steemit chat... I want to discuss something with you if possible. I am in chat now.

These pictures are so amazing. I'm obsessed. And if only life worked that way!

I know. When we moved to this location it was seven hours from our previous home on Long Island and away from most of our family. My cousins were my closest friends, so that was the hard, I really wanted one of those portals to open up straight into their backyard.

This is such a great message. We were so innocent as kids and tend to forget that as we grow older. Moments like these are what keeps us alive and I'm glad you could share it. Thanks for the inspirational message and pictures! Nature is a beautiful thing.

Thank you, and this is a great response to it! We do tend to forget, so it'g reat when we're reminded ;)

Perfect place for a secret underground facility where people experiment with genes implantation. Spoooooooky.

Sounds like a neat idea for a short story !

A beautiful set of photographs and insight into your amazing imagination @dreemit.

This comment will constitute my 1000th post on steemit and I specifically wanted it to be for you my friend!! :) Thank you for all your helpful advice!

Hope you are having a lovely day!!

Aw, I love being your one thousandth post!

I like your posts, you are amazing

Wow, well thank you!

I've got about one minute to post this before computer shuts down, I'm going to attempt to post my Theater post around 4 hours from now, tell @nonameslefttouse that I am having computer issues, but I'll be back!

Stunning photography from you and a beautiful, lush woodland featuring "The invisible house"! Growing up around such landscape, it's no wonder you're as talented and imaginative as you are.

Fantastic insight into the spellbinding fable that is your life. Thank you so much, amazing @dreemit! :)

There is no doubt that my environment has inspiration around every corner...until the winter comes anyway!

Nice pics! I did see some colorful little things floating around there. I always liked old abandoned stone work like that, it tells stories with just a picture.
Barely online right now, I'm posting before it shuts down!

I may venture into the woods a bit, see if I can find some of the other abandones stone buildings I ran into as a kid :)

I love this post, and I loved playing in places like this when I was younger... though by the hudson river it was more like empty factories and boat graveyards

Backyard forests are great origin stories for creative types, aren't they? I count myself among those who share that origin story with you, sister. It's awesome how trees and grass have that kind of effect on the mind. That's how I was thought of as having ADHD--older people think that I'm talking to supernatural creatures even more older people made up, but in reality, I was talking to creatures that I created haha!

Now that the house doesn't exist anymore, I guess your parents (hi Mama Dreemit!! :D) now hold the distinction of having the oldest house there. That's awesome!
