We've all seen the travel photos of this great temple complex, however, inside many of the upper stupas sits a solitary Buddha image. This one is on the lower levels and sits in a niche within the wall. Head likely stolen centuries ago.
Set upon a sculpted hill, one can survey the surrounding valley and mountainous area.
There are 72 stupas on the top 3 levels which contained Buddha's within, many stupas have been damaged and heads looted. There are some till enclosed inside the stupas and some which are fully exposed. Although, I suspect this one may have been replaced. (please do not step up onto stupas to take a selfie or to photograph it - I used a special boom pole to make this overhead shot - respect our relics regardless of where you encounter them!)
