This example is shot from a Sony mirrorless (a7r) with a tripod sitting in a boat, it's worth looking at Capture ONE Pro (express) to process your ARW files initially and the bring them into LR to apply other filters etc.
Here is a rough comparison of the same image initially processed through Capture ONE Pro and the second via Lightroom (cropped differently)
The effects applied to each are slightly different, but the dynamic range difference is quite easy to spot.
Processed via Capture ONE Pro: This was shot from a longtail boat off the coast of Ao Nang, Thailand - (definitely worth visiting if you haven't already)
Processed via Lightroom
Of course, this software may be useful for other RAW shooters as well, I just have not taking the time to test. This is the free version (express).

Nicely done. I like the comparison shots.

@e-steem I think I will be following you from this point forward as I am currently weighing my options as well. I recently bought a new sony mirrorless camera and of course Sony pushed their product (Capture One) on me -- I got it for free as it's not pro and I bought a Sony camera, but I think I am starting to fall in love with it. PS, amazing shot! What camera and lens did you use for this?

Yes, I'm also just using the free version so far. I currently use the a7r and that might have been the 24mm Canon L adapted with the Metabones (I've sold my canon L glass and metabones). Zeiss 21mm Loxia is compact and well... bad ass. Before the Zeiss I used a cheap 21mm Olympus 3.5 as the Zeiss wasn't yet available where I was. That Olympus is really a contender if $$ are a factor.

Nice and simple comparison! I have been using lightroom all the while and thought of going over to Capture One pro in the future as I am not too keen on a subscription based model. May I ask how is the user-friendliness of Capture One pro?

It's rather unwieldy at first and sometimes I am not sure I understand how things are 'cataloged'... so I do what I need to - then move things on to LR. Worth a go for the important images at least - maybe do a comparison and see if it's worth it for you and your style.
