Don't look too far....

No, I am not gonna be philosophical here. We all know what the title could mean.
Nope, not gonna happen.
It is a lot simpler than that.

We used to have some yucca plant in a pot at home when I was younger. I don't remember what happened to it, but I know it never bloomed at home. Many many years later I saw yuccas growing in Portugal like any other tree. Outside in a garden. All year round...

And then I saw the flowers and I was blown away! The tall stem full of creamy tulip-like bloms. That was just something amazing! But they plant was always in a place where I couldn't reach them. So for years I was admiring it from a distance hoping that one day I will be able to touch the flowers and smell them.

This spring I visited my mum and what did I see in a garden? Yucca!
She didn't have it there for long that's why I never saw it before. Also it has a short blooming season so it was easily missed.
But... how in a world does it survive Polish winter in a garden? And then I started to see them in almost all garden on our street... WTF? It was like a yucca invasion! They definitely weren't there few years ago.

It almost looks like some trend (or a garden shop promotion) that everyone had to have one. And that is fine by me. When they bloom they are just amazing! And I think they require almost no care.

I didn't take a photo of the whole plant, cause there was lots of bushes and other flowers growing around. Only the flower stem was sticking out. So I stolethe photo from the internet :p. This is how her looks like.

And I finally could touch the petals :)

What does the smell of this flower look like?

I honestly don't remember. I did smell it though... I guess nothing memorable.

Just interesting flowers, similar to our daylily with something

They are worth eating! And if you are willing to sacrifice one or two of the young flowerstalks, when they look like asparagus, you are in for a treat. Roasted Yucca flowerstalk is like a giant asparagus, only with even a stronger asparagus flavor. :D :D
