Beware of the Swamp

I haven’t had a chance to do some real hiking so far this week though on Monday I clocked in well over 11 miles of walking. I want new pictures and scout out more locations for Trails & Ales. Until I get new material I’ll go through some old ones. During my trek to Perkins a few weeks back I entered a low lying area that was a wetland. It had trees but I don’t know if it could be truly classified as a swamp. On the hiking guide it mentions that there are bogs along the trail. When I saw it the first thing that came to mind was quicksand.

Quicksand was another childhood fascination of mine and the media at the time provided me with enough fuel to keep my interest burning. The reruns of shows I watch had it; Dukes of Hazzard, CHiPs, and Gilligan’s Isle are some that stood out. The Super Mario games included quicksand on desert levels. I could fill up the entire blog describing all the movies, shows, and cartoons with characters getting caught in quicksand or something similar to it. I had written a movie pitch about a murdered teen’s ghost becoming living quicksand to go after the kids of those that murdered him.

There was one movie that I had forgotten the name of and it was driving me mad to find. When I would describe a scene to people that involved a horse sinking in mud and a crying the immediate response is The Neverending Story. No it wasn’t the Neverending Story! I needed figure out what movie it was because I started cracking up at the scene and got kicked out of the classroom for it. A few months ago I stumbled across somebody posting the same damn question. The movie was Run Wild, Run Free and it is a painful to watch movie which explains why I was laughing so hard because something interesting finally happened.

In most of my recent edits to pictures I have been trying to eliminate a lot of the green that shows up. For this one I wanted more green to make the mire come alive. When it started to come together I felt it looked like it could have been pulled from a 70s nature’s revenge films Frogs in particular.

Swamp Thing or Bigfoot;)

Gonna say Bigfoot. The area is still to hilly for Swamp Thing.
