3 Months Living in a malga in the Middle of the Mountains! Part Two - Life in the Malga + The Mountains and the Forest!

This is the continuation of my last post - 3 Months Living in a malga in the Middle of the Mountains! Part 1 - The House and The Animals about last summer where we lived in this malga in the middle of the Dolomites mountains.

My son Willow playing with the ice cold water from the mountains!

As I described in the last post; a malga is basically where the cows go to graze in the summer and the house is where the people taking care of the cows lives. Sometimes it will also have more animals, make cheese or butter or, as in this case, have a restaurant.

DSCF4683.JPG

We stayed here the summer, because my partner Roberto, who is a chef, got a job here, and me and Willow were aloud to stay here along with him for free :)

As last time I showed and told a bit about the house and the animals living there for the summer with us, this time I want to take you along in the beautiful surroundings and stunning views from this place!

Before we go outside, i also want to share a little photo of the kitchen, with the ricotta getting smoked over the fire (on the shelf under the roof)

So now, let us go for a little walk :)

DSCF4732.JPG

One of my favorite thing with living in this place, was that there were so incredibly many options to go hiking or walking! Normally, when going out of the door, you usually have two options to walk; up the street or down the street, and then the typical road to get out of town, or away from the road you see all the time..
But here, going out of the door, there are 180 degrees of options! Up towards the high mountains, down towards the river, up to that forest part or along the track or follow the stream, or, or, or! I don't even think I went all the ways possible!

DSCF4729.JPG

And even though, let's see if I even manage to put in here just the best photos of all the relatively short walks I did - Having a two year old with me all the time, meant that we didn't always get that far ;D

Also beauty in the small things!

And back inside on a cold day

And the sun came out again!

And here I found a picture too from inside our room. Small. Simple. What else do you need?

Oh yeah, I want to mention too that of course we had no TV here and there was only one spot where the phones had reception!:

A little bit more of animals ;D

And this is how it looked when the restaurant was full:

And when the rain suddenly came, everybody went inside!:

Or wherever there was cover!:

Out again in the forest with bare feet:

And up to the high mountains (only 20 minutes from the malga)

Even Willow was excited!

Especially for these! ;D

I did a few small jobs too, as painting the sign for the cakes and daily menu and this Dog Bar(k) (a bark is a small shed in the local dialect)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW your photos are amazing! The mountains and the way you've captured them is just stunning!!!!! <3 <3 <3 Ok I think I am starting to be jealous of your experience lol. :P I'm just messing but what a place to have been. And those little toesies on the ground :D Willow is such a cutie. Sending hugs to the little one!
Was the drinking water from the mountains too? Must have been so fresh and crisp.
You are living the dream and the best life someone could live. Good for you and your family for doing so! xx

thank you!
Oh yes, the most fresh crisp drinking water you can imagine! so clear!
Well it was wonderful, but I also had a hard time, to be honest, because everyone had their job and part in this place and speaking a dialect of italian that i couldn't really follow (to begin with italian itself is hard enough!) so I actually had some hard times of loneliness and that's why I chose not to go again this summer.
but it was definitely a great experience, for willow too. Just saying that sometimes it's easy on pictures and posts that it looks like a perfect life I am living, but it's not always as glittery in real life!

I was thinking that when writing my comment. I understand what you are saying. Wishing I could say more on why I understand you but... public forum right.
The way I am seeing it is you put yourself out to give your loved ones something that is out of this world. To Willow, I bet it seemed like he was in a fairytale land. You gave this little one such a great start that most cannot give in this way. So I congratulate you. Your hardships sure paid off and you did what every great mother would do.
At the same time, I hug you. Loneliness is not everyone's friend and for such a long time too. You are a mother like no other. I believe that you did your body and soul some good as I know for sure that being in a place like that gave you some healing. Whether it be the true water from the mountains, the clean air, the purity of the ground your feet touched. Cannot find that in the cities. But everything comes at a price small or big.
Live in harmony my friend. Life can be an amazing thing. You are an amazing life :)

thank you, I know you understand!

Oh how I want to eat that smoked cheese and drink that mountain water. What a lovely Summer your family must have had, and what better fun then nature and animals to play with and not even having to be plugged in all the time! Amazing.

Wow!! It's gorgeous
And your Lil Bub's so cuteee 😊

thank you, he sure is :D

What a beautiful place and what a lovely family you have. Love you guys 💕 Is Roberto cooking Ital food? It is my favorite when I go to Caribbean.

yes mostly italian food and everything else really :D I'm pretty lucky ;D
In this place it was all traditional food from the mountains, which is a bit more like Austrian food, like spätzle, knödel, polenta and lots of cheese..!

Again, such beautiful photos ... love the cheese being smoked, but Willow steals the show for sure! Do you speak Italian? If not, this must have gotten a little lonely for lack of a better word; of course it's so cool to be able to stay their for free, but with everyone else doing their 'jobs', a two year old can only be 'company' for so long :) I'm saying that as a mom myself ... love them to death, but man, adult company is pretty sweet too! All that aside, pretty cool experience too!

Submitting this to c-squared :)

You hit the nail, that's exactly why I didn't go there again this year - well i DO speak Italian (not perfectly though) but people here speak a special mountain dialect, that is really hard to follow! They would speak italian to me though, but when they spoke together, I was pretty outside it all. And exactly, everyone had their job and their purpose, and I was just there, trying not to be in the way! So yes it got pretty hard at times too as well, and I actually wanted to include that part in the post, but for some reason it didn't come in :) Thank you for seeing that! <3

You are so welcome @frejafri! I totally understand ... our (everyone's) posts seem so perfect, but I just know that life isn't, even in a beautiful place like this :)

Baby Willow is so cute!! :) And very, very lovely photos @frejafri :) Aaaahh... beautiful! The hills are alive, with the sounds of music :) It is really nice that you are surrounded by nature, isn't it?

Oh wow, three months of living in that beautiful scenery! I'm jealous! The photos make it look incredibly fresh!

FANTASTICOOO!!
Oltre il magnifico paesaggio, penso che voi stiate dando un ottimo inizio in vita al vostro piccolino. I mie piú sentiti saluti.

FANTASTIC!!
Beyond the magnificent landscape, I think you are giving a great start in life to your little one. My heartfelt greetings.

grazie mille! Sí, a lui ha piaciuto un sacco! :D

This looks like an incredible place to stay for the summer! Wow, those views from the room and when you are outside as well - so beautiful!!

Amazing to think that there's so much beautiful scenery I haven't explored in Europe seeing as it's only a short flight away!

Thanks for sharing, looks like I have another place to add to this ever growing list thanks to travelfeed :D

thank you! Oh yes, once you start travelling you have to see it all right :D The Dolomites are definitely worth a visit I would say :)

I'd have to agree with you there!

this is amazing! how does one get a job like this or get visit a place like this?

Well for Roberto getting these jobs are too easy, because he knows a lot of people and is asked all the time (he's had similar jobs in two other places). But as an outsider, I guess it's possible to just go and ask around! They actually needed more people when I was there last time, but I don't know how easy it would be without speaking Italian. Maybe the jobs that are not with customers. It must be nice to be one of those who walks around with the cows to different pastures! A part from they are all guys from this area ;)

That pineapple is too adorable! Beautiful scenery! It looks like a lot of fun!

Your boy is so cute! I love his chunky feet! :)
