Another shrub of mine started thinking it was a pine tree. One spot on it started producing blue spruce shoots instead of it's normal branches.

Your shrub is actually a dwarf spruce, sometimes it reverts back to its original form!

There are also still roots in the ground from an old blue spruce tree it could have tapped into. I have other shrubs that have done it too.
