A Ceiba Tree in La Ceiba

in photography •  7 years ago

The name of the city where I live is La Ceiba, it has this name because according to local history there was a huge Ceiba tree on the beach close to where the banana export wharf was built. This tree no longer exists, but you can still find a few scattered around the area. The one whose photographs I am posting is in one of the central parts of the city close to the football stadium. It is a large tree over 100 feet tall and over 15 feet in diameter, but in the outskirts of town I have seen a few Ceiba trees whose diameters were well over 20 feet.
