West Texas Ghost Town

in photography •  8 years ago

We visited west Texas last July. From the lush cool Davis Mountains over to desert ghost town Terlingua as well as the border town of Lajitas. Lajitas is a golf course resort town in the middle of the desert, essentially a stone throws away from Mexico. The locals are so relaxed around here that they have voted in a goat as their mayor. Yes, I said a goat, Clay Henry III is his name. Terlingua is an old mining town with not much to it. Some old decaying homes, Terlingua Cemetery and the Starlight Theatre. I can't wait to go back during the cooler months of course. Lajitas DSC06785.JPGDSC06790.JPGDSC06794.JPGDSC06566.JPG DSC06572.JPG

Terlingua is beautiful, and with Big Bend National Park so close, it's a perfect place to visit for a week or two in April before the real heat kicks in! I stayed at a lovely AirBnB there a couple of years ago and drove into the park each day. Thanks for sharing your pics!

We enjoyed thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We went during the slow season because of the kiddos and summer break. We were told the busy season is during spring break. We stayed in Lajitas in their Maverick Ranch RV Park. We loved our drive into BBNP each day.

The chairs look good, In the fourth photo, with the fountain.

We are heading that way this November and are really looking forward to the trip. Love your pics! thanks for sharing!
