127 people died of diphtheria this year in the country, according to the latest epidemiological update on December 15.
Children were the most affected during the year, because 72% of the total cases belonged to them.
Given this situation, the institution recommended having an adequate clinical management of the disease. As indicated by the Venezuelan Health Observatory, the danger of this disease is the production of a so-called diphtheria toxin that can cause complications in the central nervous system and organs such as the heart, liver and kidney.
The main symptoms of diphtheria are fever and malaise. For its part, the Ministry of Health has not issued the epidemiological bulletins in which official figures of this disease are known.
