View of the main manor house on the Panepistimou avenue in Athens. Part of a complex which currently houses the Council of State. It was built between 1842 - 1856 to house the Girls' School of the Educational Society. It was the first girls' school founded in the Greek state thanks to the donation of Apostolos Arsakis and Eleni Tositsa. Designed by the Greek architect Lysandros Kaftantzoglou, the mansion house named Arsakeion is a two-floors construction with side wings surrounding inner courtyards. On the facade, we can see the marble frame of the entrance and the Doric columns while the ionic semi-columns on the windows and the pedimental endings are characteristics of the Greek classic style. Above the main entrance is the bust of Athena, work of the distinguished sculptor of the 19th century Leonidas Drosis, who signed also the statues of Plato and Socrates in the Propylaea Academy. The interiors of the mansion are formed by large halls with decorated ceilings and marble stairwells, which give the aesthetic mood of the time. I took this photo which shows a part of the flank of the building, a beautiful night in January 2018. Unfortunately that night the battery of my camera was run out of power. So, this is the only photo of this historic building from that night. Since then I m waiting for a night to be with the same lighting and weather conditions for taking more photos of this building. I hope you like it, have a nice and creative Tuesday!
