Which insect do you see? 5 SBD for the fastest correct answer. / Welches Insekt ist das? 5 SBD für die schnellste korrekte Antwort.

Today the rather impressive insect you see below crossed my father's path while he was working in his little bee house. He sent me some photos (besides the insect itself I think the shadows on the floor are really fascinating) and asked me what it could be? Now he knows the answer - do you know it as well?

To make this quiz somewhat more exciting, I will send 5 SBD to the first person who can give me the full scientific name of this creature. Good luck! :)

Prionus coriarius

Right, but @walterz was the first. :)

it is Prionus coriarius but in india we call it by many different names.

Then in India there may be similar but not this exact species. Every species has only one single scientific name. Prionus coriarius is not distributed in India.

pine sawyer beetle..

Exact scientific name, please?

Monochamus scutellatus

NOPE! :)

Schönes Exemplar - die Käfer werden auch immer seltener

Good quiz! Congratulation for the winner! ;)

Our People Called "Ujoe Joek"

I guess you talk about the family Cerambycidae in general. The exact species Prionus coriarius doesn't live in Indonesia though.

Gregor Samsa

:)

Will you be sending us more insects?

Maybe. :)
Did you like the contest?

Very much! I knew it was a longhorn beetle, but I didn't know the Latin name. Would the contests be restricted to what happens to wander/fly into your father's garden?

Not necessarily. However on the one hand these contests shouldn't be toooo easy, but on the other hand it must be finally clear which insect it is. In many cases it is nearly not possible to decide which exact species it is by only watching a photo (often there are many very similar species).

Ah, I see. Well then you seem to have your parameters that will help you narrow it down! Now all you need is a good photograph.

Its a prionus Coriarius

Insecta :)

:-)

Tough contest. Can't easily google this one!

Good to know haha.

GW BUSH

:-)

Penthe pimelia :)

Not really. :)

Upvote! Nice post:)

is it Trachypachidae?

Order: Coleoptera
Suborder: Adephaga
Family: Trachypachidae
Genus: Systolosoma Trachypachus

I think the scientific name is Trachypachus zetterstedtii

Thanks for taking part, but ... this is also not correct. :)

BEETLE is the correct spelling not Beatle as in the Rock Band

Pterostichus melanarius (Common black ground beetle) (Carabus melanarius)

Both wrong ...

And please: don't edit, but instead of that make a new post: I need to see the exact time when your newest reply came out ...

My apologies

No problem, but it makes it more easy for me to see who is the winner ...
