Booker's Bourbon

I had the day off from work today because of an unexpected power outage, so I thought the best way to spend my new found free time was to try a new type of whiskey.

I am a huge whisky and scotch fan. I first started drinking whisky by drinking the cheaper, more commercial whiskys like Seagram's, Maker's Mark and Jack Daniel's. All are good but lacked boldness. And I too thought most tasted the same. Yhat was until I tried a bottle of Lagavulin Single Malt scotch. It blew my socks off. Oakey, leathery textured taste with a sweet finish. "There's the flavor" I thought.

Since then, I've tried numerous other types. Irish Whisky, Sour Mash, etc. and find hints of new flavors every time.

Today, I tried Booker's. Booker's is a bourbon produced by Jim Beam's distillery and is their highest proof whisky. Most whisky's are around 80 proof, but this is between 121 - 130 proof.

It had a very sweet finish, yet still maintained that oak barrel flavor. You can definitely tell it is a high proof spirit, for one glass can give you quite the buzz, even for an experienced drinker.

Definitely recommend.

Happy Steeming!

Very good spirit to drink. @jgullinese

You got the steeming right today, I quite a drinker too, but I tend to enjoy gin than other types of drinks.

Like the unassuming bottle. I am bit of super taster and so just a sip of whiskey can sit with me for an half hour. Makes whiskey on the whole unapproachable for me. Though I do love to taste it and find all the complexity. I did find a way to enjoy it though as a sipper ... on ice with about half a shot of orange juice ... It is still mostly whiskey and you can make out the flavors but it really mellows it down.

Orange juice in your whisky?! Blasphemy! Haha.

Don't knock it to you try it and don't overdo the orange juice.

You might have tried these already, but if you're a fan of scotch and bourbon I recommend Talisker, which has a briny, almost iodine-like flavor, and George T. Stagg or Stagg Jr., which is like Booker's, except turned to 11 🥃

Lagavulin 16 year is probably my all-time favorite Scotch whisky...
