Bowling for buzzards

I was riding my bike this afternoon when three vultures on the side of a path caught my attention, so I stopped riding and took a picture of them. All pictures were taken with my Canon 80D camera.

As I sat and watched them for about five minutes, I noticed that the first vulture (pictured first) was in charge. If either of the vultures came close to it, the first vulture would become very aggressive with them and flap it's wings.

The second vulture (pictured below) seemed to be the most affable one with the most personality. In the shot, their mouth is open, as it was making bird sounds to any surrounding birds in the area. I like to imagine that it just told a bird joke ( something like one bird says to another you owe me money, so the other bird says put it on my bill) and is laughing.

The last vulture (pictured below) approached the first bird, but was shunned away, so it just stayed away the rest of the time I was by them.

Normally a dangerous bird, these birds did not show any aggression towards me despite my close vicinity, which allowed me to get some pretty cool shots. I didn't notice any dead animals around, so I'm not sure why they were there but still...definitely good day for photography, despite the crummy weather.

very nice photos

Great photography, excellent capture.

I can honestly say I have never really looked closely at vultures before. Not the prettiest bird but very unique.

@bowentroyer aesthetically, they are ugly as crap! But the scale-like makeup of their necks as well as the length of their sharp talons is pretty flippin' cool. Also, the way they circle an entire area just waiting for prey or for an animal to die is quite impressive. There is a highway about 5 miles away from where I live and you will see at least 100 of them circling through the sky in that area at least once a week.

I honestly have never seen this animal once. I'm so glad to see that bird. thanks for the information
