Capital Wheel, National Harbor

On one of my many trips across the U.S., as I was visiting a friend in D.C., we decided to take a little trip to National Harbor, Maryland to check out the Capital Wheel. National Harbor is right outside of Washington D.C. Here are some shots I took, using my Canon 80D camera with a 15 -75 mm lens.

The Capital Wheel officially opened May 23, 2014. It was designed by Milton Peterson, who was a big fan of the Roue De Paris (a 200 ft tall Ferris wheel in Paris, France built in 1900), and it was built by a company called Chance Rides (interesting name to use for something that you are risking your life riding!), who hail from Wichita, Kansas.

The height of the Ferris wheel is actually quite impressive. It is approximately 180 feet tall and can hold 336 passengers at one time. I was thoroughly impressed by the Ferris wheel that I saw at the Florida Strawberry Festival here, but it is nothing in comparison to this beauty.

What is also really cool about it is you can see the Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol while riding a gondola to the sky!

If you ever get a chance to visit this area of the United States, I would highly suggest taking a ride on the Capital Wheel. If you can handle being that high in the sky!

One love,

I have never visited the place, but seeing that wheel gave me something of fear although I notice in the image that where you are sitting are like cabins so this is something safe

Yes, they are enclosed and safe, but it is still terrifying!
