Best Trail Camera Pictures 2017

in photography •  7 years ago

For some I had been thinking about getting a trail camera. Had seen many animals and tracks of them at summer place and forests near it while walking there or picking berries or mushrooms. In this July I finally got a Burrel S12 camera and in September a small SG 520 trail camera.

At first a had no idea how really use them and just put them places where had seen animals or tracks. But quickly after that I was reading maps and checking satellite picture for new and possible good places to put a camera. Then I build a stand to put it in forest or in shallow water and by that had new places to put it.

As usually I got lucky in some times and unlucky in other. Got a nice video of 2 baby deer fawns when camera was only couple of hours in that place. On other hand I missed a good picture or video out of great egret even it was 3 days near my camera, but I think similar things will happen to all and again to me.

Now after new year I was cleaning material to 2017 folder and at same time thought I would put my picks of best pictures taken by trail camera in 2017. Here is my top 15 and one bonus picture. All are taken between 14.7-29.12.2017 in southwest Finland.

Hope you like them and you can put your picks of best one in comments.

1 Cranes spend night in that shallow water and this is after they woke up

And then a bonus picture. Most likely this is a nice size pike attack, but don't know for a fact.

Thanks, it was a close call for me also between 1 and 2, liked both of them

Yeah. You like dark style photography and it's cool. Keep exploring to your new cameras.

These are taken on a trail camera(not so much options) so to my opinion was influenced how I was able to think were animals/birds were going to etc. Bit different than I was taking pictures with my normal camera. So my thinking on these might be biased some way :) But there is lot of learning where and how animals are moving, and how to place camera that both would be in right place when in range.

Not easy for me to capture moving animals. Max zooming for this photo and it gets blurred.

I know that feeling, my "normal" camera is Canon S3 which has pretty good zoom, but still many times it has not been enough
