Lightning over the Baltic Sea

in photography •  6 years ago  (edited)

I 'm in a beautiful Lithuanian seaside town right now, nestled between the Curonian lagoon, the Baltic Sea and the Russian border. Surrounded by softwood forests, rolling sand dunes and and beautiful beaches - it's quite an amazing place. Last night I spent several hours trying to learn how to use a Canon5D, which is a few steps up from my usual Canon SL1, and a 12-24mm lens. As I was out, there was an incredible thunderstorm happening on the horizon over the sea that was lighting up the sky. I've chosen a few of my favorite shots, all 30 second exposures, and posted them below:

Next time I'm out taking photos at night, I think I will switch out the Cannon 12-24mm lens for my Nikon 24mm manual lens which, I feel, takes much better shots - especially in the dark.
