Around my house out in the country, we have lots of different kinds of birds. One type that we see most often is the cardinal. We often see the males because of their well-known bright red color, but when these pictures were taken, he had his mate nearby. I always found it funny that there was such a distinction between the males and females.
These birds stand out and catch your eye as you glance across the landscape. Their distinct color and appearance is just one of the many reasons why they have been adopted as the state bird and as a mascot for several states and schools.
Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed these pictures.
Oh these are just stunning! I always wish I could get close ups of the birds I see locally!

Thanks! They are not always easy to get. Hopefully you are able to catch some pictures in the future for others to see! Best of luck!

I enjoyed your pictures a lot. I'm a bird lover, I buy a big bag of wild bird seeds every month, and throw it on the porch to feed them. Cardinals, blue jays, finches, mourning doves, you name it, even squirrels, they all come to feast in harmony! Cardinals are quite jittery though, I always have a hard time in taking their picture. But I have the satisfaction of observing them from a distance while they come and go.
