πŸ“· OneBreathOnePhoto #6 - ONE photo of ONE moment on ONE single breath of air

in photography β€’Β  7 years agoΒ  (edited)

Hello dear Steemian friends! Welcome to the 6th episode of:

#OneBreathOnePhoto

As some of you may know, two of the things that I'm deeply passionate about besides travelling, is Freediving and Photography. Freediving is a practice of diving underwater without a tank or any other breathing apparatus, gliding through the watery abyss on a single breath of air with nothing but you and nature.

My aim for #onebreathonephoto is to showcase the beauty of this sport and the beauty of the ocean, as well as to brighten up your day by sharing some of my favourite photos taken over the years.

ONE photo at a time, of ONE moment in time, on ONE breath of air

GEEEEEZZZ to me that photo would require an immense amount of courage. Love the shot, sweet!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thank you @flybendor, actually the whales are super gentle creatures and most often they are the ones running away from us, so it was more of a game of patience :)

beautiful shot! I love the style of splitting the shot and getting above and below the surface at the same time. How close did you get to the whale?

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thank you @fiftysixnorth, coming from you I'm very flattered! I was probably about 10m away I would say, nothing is close enough when you have a 16mm fish eye pointing at a whale :) Though the whales do get really close in Tonga!

Now I'm flattered! :) 10m sounds pretty close to me! Keep up the great work! Looking forward to seeing more :)

@keunok, this is a fantastic shot and so under-appreciated. This experience must have been incredible, being 10m away from such a magnificent creature must have felt pretty special.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thank you @munchell, those words means a lot to me, and fuels me to keep going :)
Yes it's definitely one of the most amazing experiences i've had in the ocean, their presence and energy kinda sucks you in closer, it's really strange, like an invisible force that pulls you in! no joke!

That must be an amazing feeling to be that close! Brilliant photo @kuenok, well done!

Thank you @colmedwardsphoto, yes it's an incredible feeling swimming next to a whale, sheer power and size!

The colors and clarity in this are absolutely amazing! Well done. Extremely professional

This photo is amazing! I thought it was cg at first glance, then I read about you, and freediving etc. Must be a spiritual experience to be part of this ;)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thank you @steemmeupscotty, yes freediving is totally spiritual and zen, especially when you encounter creatures like this! I think Freediving will fit you perfectly, you are bound to find many beauty in the ocean especially in the darkness! I cannot recommend highly enough to give it a try:)

You're welcome! I'll have to practice holding my breath in my bathtub first ;) Thanks for looking at my profile. I like the way you extracted info about me and applied it to free divingπŸ™ŒπŸ™πŸ‹.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Most of the time it's not so much physical practice, but more of meditation and training to unleash the full potential of your mind, diving deep into yourself and conquering all kinds of fear. Freediving is all in the head, you'd be surprised how long you can actually hold your breath for once you learn some basics :)

I can only imagine :) At times in yoga, before a nasty knee injury, I'd touch points of absolute stillness in motion, and feel 'tapped in' and so so efficient. My knee is better now for the most part, but my practice has ground down so much :( Time to get back on the mat I think :)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Sorry to hear about your knee injury, but I hope you dont let any of that stop you. actually thats another reason why you should consider freediving since it's good for joints! I wish you all the best regardless, supporting you from afar :)

Found this through @daveks and @boxcarblue... This is fantastic! I love pics that 'look' clean n simple, but when you think about what went into the making of the picture - it's mind-boggling! That's a winner! :) All the very best, @kuenok! :))

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thank you for those kind words @ackhoo, and understanding the amount of work that are involved in capturing such moments. The battle of patience, determination and sheer luck! and a bit of endurance swimming lol

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

You're most welcome, @kuenok! We may not be there physically but definitely in spirit... We'll cheer you on from the sidelines... :D

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Actually if you're really in m'sia, i'm right next door from you, quite literally on the sideline there :)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Hahaha... I'm really in M'sia!!! :D So the sidelines are not too far away then... :D :D (Just read your incredible story from your intro, etc!)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thanks for reading @ackhoo if you're ever on this side of the border, let me know so we can go for some photo walks :)

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Great! Frankly I haven't been for awhile... soon we hope! ;) Thanks!!
