Adventures into Mexican Markets: The Bird Vendors Part 1

in photography •  8 years ago

Meet Fro, the chicken we bought today.  I call her that because she's got the biggest tuft of feathers I've ever seen on a chicken, which we call her afro.

She should already be laying, so once she calms down from the stress we'll have eggs!

We purchased her and got her in a bag, so I carried her in my lap the whole way home.  We stopped for burgers on the way and she sat in my lap, calm as could be the whole time.

A section of the central market not seen by most, being remodeled.

Bulk food vendor

The flower shop by the bird shop with the friendly shopkeeper with his peace sign.  He wanted to look good in the photo.

We have 5-6 places we frequent for birds now, this one just has the most.

That bird is a baby, sitting next to it's Mom

Skeptical chicken was skeptical of my funny looking camera.

We got 10 more quail today!

There you have it for now, stay tuned for more unique bird pictures!

I love the fact, that you have chickens. A long-term goal for me, too. Awesome shots from the market as well.

Would love to learn more about the ins and outs of holding chickens. :)

nice birds

Awesome post @lily-da-vine, up-voted & re-steemed!!!

Very cool to see the market! Nice birds

that's creepy..naming the bird and then eat it? wow.....

It's not like I took it home and snapped it's neck and made it for dinner. I understand what you're trying to say but acting like I'm a bad person for giving something that I'm going to be caring for for several months a name is a bit silly in my opinion. That's like trying to tell a gardener that they shouldn't name what variety the tomato plant is, because they're going to eat the tomato. I get there's a lot of philisophical questions that surround raising and eventually killing animals, but this might not have been the best way to raise your concerns.

One said his name was Fricassee
The second Cordon Bleu
The third was Cacciatore
The fourth they just called "Stew"

Teenage Mutant Kung Fu Chickens - Ray Stevens

That's how to name them! ^_^
