LSCOTTPHOTOS PhotoPoll #2 - Who is your photography idol?

in photography •  8 years ago  (edited)

We all have that one person we look up to and admire. I know I get really excited to talk about how they inspire me and how I appreciate their artwork. So that brings me to the second question of the PhotoPoll...

Who is your photography idol?

In the introductory post, I mentioned the surrealist photographer Rachel Baran. But she's not the only photographer that has caught my eye. I'm talking about Kyle Thompson.

I love his photos because they are the type that I aspire to take one day... expressive self-portraits that tell a story and show raw emotions.

His work encapsulates the ephemeral narrative, a nonexistent story line that only lives for a split moment.  These images show the collapse of narrative, as there is no defined story line with a beginning and end; instead, these images create a loop.  This fleeting moment lives on in a constant unchanging state.  By diverting the view of the face, the images become more ambiguous, the viewer is no longer able to tie a defined story line to the image.

I encourage you to check out his work and don't forget to comment below with your favorite photographer!

Ideas and advice for questions in the next PhotoPoll can also be suggested (and would be much appreciated)!

I will definitely look into his photos! Thanks for commenting!

I like individual photos of many authors, but rarely all of their work. There's one photographer, most of whose work I enjoy - her name is Vivian Maier. Check out her photos, they are nothing short of amazing - I've spent hours looking at her images, trying to grasp what makes them so different from other photographers' style.

@dek, thanks to your comment, I went searching on youtube and have added this to my list to watch!

Oh! I haven't watched this one, thank you!

Very good point - it's rare for one to enjoy all of their work :) I'll check out Vivian Maier! Thank you for commenting! EDIT: her self-portraits are so cool!

Morgan Maassen. The kid is good.

Just looked up some of their pics! Awesome!
