Chan Chan is the largest Pre-Columbian era city, in South America. It is now an archaeological site west of the city Trujillo, in Peru. The city is located in the mouth of Moche Valley, and was the capital of the Chimor Kingdon, which ruled the northern coast of Peru, from 850 to 1470. In Quingnam, the language spoken at the time, the name Chan Chan translates to Sun Sun, a reference to the hot climate in the valley.
The city was built mainly using mud bricks, and features temples and residences for both higher and lower classes. The city is also decorated with sculptures, reliefs and wall carvings.
