Chrysosplenium is a genus of flowering plants in the family Saxifragaceae. It is commonly known as golden saxifrages or water carpets. The genus includes around 80 species, which are primarily found in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in Asia,Europe, and North America.Chrysosplenium species are herbaceous perennials that grow in moist habitats, such as damp woodlands, stream banks, and wet meadows. They often form dense mats or carpets of foliage, hence the common name water carpets. These plants have creeping stems that root at the nodes, allowing them to spread and colonize moist areas. The leaves of Chrysosplenium are typically rounded or kidney-shaped and often have scalloped or toothed margins. Some species have leaves with attractive patterns or markings. The flowers are small and inconspicuous, usually green or yellowish-green in color. They are borne in clusters or cymes and appear in spring or early summer. One notable characteristic of Chrysosplenium species is their ability to reproduce both sexually and asexually. They produce seeds, but they can also spread vegetatively through the rooting of stem nodes, allowing them to form extensive colonies.
