Oh no! Not Gibsons... I'll be even more careful now that I know this. I never use stands mostly because of dust, always put it back in it's case where it stays safe and cozy.

Yeah, some people think that employing a scarf joint from the first to the third fret is a bad idea, but the guitars that have them don't break. Also my Tokai has a smaller headstock angle and stays in tune for weeks; something my Gibsons never managed to do. I partially blame this on guitar buyers; they want an exact copy of that 1959 LP that their favorite guitar god uses on stage, so Gibson isn't motivated to change anything.

I build all my necks with a scarf... but just like you said, people tend to think it sounds bad, which is complete bs...

And you are right... every time gibson wants to change something people cry foul!

I haz a sad :(

man... i once saw a telecaster get split in half... that was painful this is still recoverable

Ugh. The first guitar I ever laid eyes or hands on was my dad's Gibson (some strange model I've never seen since, and I've been looking), which had this same thing happen to it when I was three or so (I may or may not have been responsible). He fixed it though, and years later it was the first guitar I started learning on. He sold it to our next door neighbor, who in turn sold it to Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit (my dad was super proud of this fact, but I don't think he realized what Fred does exactly). I really wish I could get my hands on it, or at least one like it. I sincerely doubt Fred still has it, and I have no idea what it was called. The finish on the whole guitar was just like the neck in this photo, so that's the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.

hey paul!! it might be one of those weird melody makers.. the fretless wonders as they used to call them, have you seen anything similar?

It had a similar body to a double cutaway Melody Maker, but the hardware was way different. It had two humbuckers like a Les Paul. Maybe it could have been some unusual version of a Melody Maker, but I think it was something else. It'd be a lot easier to say if it hadn't been over 20 years since I'd seen it. It almost seems like I dreamed it now.

By the way, I'm working on a studio recording of the first song I wrote for your contest. I'm fleshing it out with drums, bass, electric guitars, all that good stuff. I'm hoping to have it recorded, mixed, and mastered within a few days so I can post it to Steemit. After that I'll be recording the other song I did for the contest, with horns and everything.

Awesome Paul... btw the radio show just got its lets, first episode is going to air this coming Wednesday and our beloved judge @soundlegion is going to join me. But of course you are on the list, maybe when you finish that song you can come play it for us.

Regarding the guitar...

maybe one of these?

Very possibly. Dark finish, double cutaway, but it could have been a version of this. In any case, I think you just got closer to figuring it out than I ever have. I can't tell from the picture, does it have the same pickup switch as the Les Paul? My dad's did.

some of them did, yes.. there is a few odd models of l6 gibsons out there, so Im sure it would have been something of the sort.

Well I might actually have a shot of finding one like my dad's now, thanks to you. Now I have something to look for other than vague memories. Thanks brother!

And yes, I'd still love to come on the show. Especially with the new recording.

Holy shit, a custom shop, that's how you end homeless

a custom shop 335 my friend...

Oh good lord that hurts!!!
Nightmare indeed!! ouch!

Damn! That definitely tends to suck!
That happened to an acustic guitar that the guitar player in our band had. It was repairable, but it still sucks. I rewired the controls on an early 1960s vintage Gibson EB-0 for a friend last year, it had been broken like that and repaired, but it wasn't a pretty repair...

you can never make it look perfect... but as long as its functional.. its a win...

Tell me,when i can stop crying !

hahahahhh right?

Well yes even if you repair...You have to rescrew the strings because as i know the position of the head changes the sound and quality...
But if you are lucky it will be ok c:

Where you?

We are not guitarists but we like music and that's a big tragedy. How you did that? o_o

according to the owner, it fell of a stand strung up... but this break is super common gibsons, because of the headstock angle... i think this one will be saved...

woww interesting

nice

wow great imaginary!! i upbutt you!

How is this nice? Lmao hahaha

O man that's rough. How do you even repair this? If that was my guitar I think I would cry!

if it's a clean brake, it can actually be reglued... if its not (luckily this one is clean) you have to do your best gluing it back, then route out some inserts and then glue inserts, then reshape... it becomes a lot of work... but it's a common repair... this might be number 20 for me...

But after all, it has a beautiful smile :)
