The Importance of Scouting in Landscape Photography

in photography •  7 years ago

For me as a landscape photographer, scouting plays a very important role in my photography – even more important than research and planning, which also happen before a photo shoot.

I just recorded a tutorial video, in which I talk about the importance of scouting and show examples where scouting helped me to create special photos.

Because usually it’s not enough to just show up at a location for sunset to get a good photo. What often happens then is that I am in a rush to find a composition while the sun already begins to dip behind the horizon. Sometimes I might come away with a good photo. But chances are that this will not be the best result possible at a location.

Hence I always plan in enough time to explore and scout and with this video I want to motivate you to do so too.

I hope you liked the video. If so, feel free to leave a comment and also make sure to check out my Youtube channel for more videos. The link is below with my other social media links.
