Sant'Agata di Puglia è un piccolo borgo medievale in provincia di Foggia, nella regione italiana meridionale della Puglia. È uno dei "Borghi più belli d'Italia". La città si trova nella valle del fiume Colaggio e acquistò molta importanza nell'antichità grazie alla sua posizione strategica.
La città aveva un nome diverso in epoca romana, ma nel 592 i resti di Sant'Agata furono trasferiti a Roma e fu allora che venne scelto il nome attuale della città.
Lungo il pendio della collina, il paese appare come un piccolo presepe in pietra, dominato dall'imponente Castello Imperiale, arroccato nella parte più alta della città, con i resti delle mura cittadine e delle fortezze originarie. L'anno originale di costruzione del castello non è noto, tuttavia è stato documentato come già presente sin dai tempi dei Normanni. Il castello si trova a un'altitudine di 800 metri sul livello del mare ed è stato utilizzato per scopi militari e di difesa per diversi secoli.
La città ha bellissime strade strette e vicoli che offrono uno scorcio su una città medievale e e passeggiare per le strade è piuttosto piacevole; diversi edifici si affacciano sui vicoli tortuosi: la chiesa barocca di San Nicola e quella di Sant'Andrea.
Uscendo dal paese, il turista non potrà non rimanere ancora affascinato da una vegetazione rigogliosa e da numerosi reperti archeologici, come le rovine del Ponte Romano sul fiume Calaggio.

Sant'Agata di Puglia is a small medieval town in the province of Foggia, in the Southern Italian region of Puglia. It's one 'The most beautiful villages in Italy'. The town is located in the Colaggio valley and had gained much importance in the ancient times due to its strategic location..
The town had a different name in Roman time, but in 592 the remains of St. Agatha were moved to Rome and it was then that the present day name of the town was chosen.
Along the slope of the hill, the town looks like a small stone nativity, dominated by the impressive Imperiale Castle, perched on the highest part of the town, with the ruins belonging to the town walls and the original keeps. The original year of construction of the castle is not known, however it has been documented as already being present since the Norman times. The castle is located at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level and was used for military and defense purposes for several centuries.
The town has beautiful narrow streets and lanes which provide a glimpse into a medieval town and lifestyle, and strolling around the streets is quite enjoyable; several buildings overlook the winding alleys: the baroque church of San Nicola and that of Sant’Andrea.
As you exit the town, after the entrance gates, you will be still amazed by a lush vegetation and many archaeological finds, such as the ruins of the Roman Bridge on Calaggio river.
Thing to see: The historic center, the Imperial Castle, the San Nicola Church, the Sant'Andra Church, the ruins of the Roman Bridge on Calaggio river.

Molto bella la panoramica dall'alto proposta nella prima foto: la vista del paese e della piana di fronte è mozzafiato.
Ci sei stato in estate? Il colore dei campi mi ricorda molto quello delle crete senesi.

Personalmente sono queste le foto che preferisco (parlo da ignorante ovviamente), quelle panoramiche fatte dall'alto. Non intendo quelle fatte dai droni bensì quelle fatte dall'uomo come in questo caso, perchè da l'idea di quello che effettivamente si sta vedendo o meglio quello che stai "vivendo". Spettacolari come sempre le tue foto 😊😊

Grazie cara.. in questo caso ero proprio sulla sommità di una delle torri del castello. Di lì si domina tutto il paesaggio sottostante.

La Puglia ha sempre un fascino particolare. Mi è sempre piaciuta come regione del Sud, sin dalle prime visite ad Alberobello.
